A splendid residence amid the orchards of Val di Non

Vigo di Ton is a quiet village and hamlet of Ton (Trento).

Nestled in the woods and orchards of Val di Non lies Vigo di Ton. On one of the hills surrounding the village stands the imposing Thun Castle, the historic residence of one of the most powerful feudal families in the area and a symbol of the Trentino valley, over which it offers unique panoramic views.

Before entering the castle, you can admire the towers, walls, ramparts, parapet walk and moat that make up this 16th-century complex of fortifications. Passing through the Spanish Gate, you come to the drawbridge and first courtyard, with access to the Palazzo Baronale. Its rooms, with the original furnishings intact, house numerous relics and historical artefacts. The Bishop's Room is entirely clad in pine wood, a typical eco-friendly material from the heart of the Alps. Arms fans will not want to miss the collection of weapons preserved inside the castle, with halberds, broadswords and daggers. There is also a large archive and library.

From Trento, you can reach Vigo di Ton in 25 minutes by car or an hour and twenty minutes by train or bus. If you arrive by car, you can park in one of the four parking spaces provided, one free of charge and the others for a fee. There is also a dedicated shuttle bus that leaves from the village, but we recommend checking departure times and timetables online first or asking at the local tourist information point, because the shuttle only runs on certain days.
